ततः स मध्यंगतमंशुमन्तं ज्योत्स्नावितानं महदुद्वमन्तम् | ददर्श धीमान् दिवि भानुमन्तं गोष्ठे वृषं मत्तमिव भ्रमन्तम् || ५-५-१

sanskrit

Then intelligent Hanuman observed the Moon in the central part of the sky spreading a canopy of his luminescence like the Sun, and looking like an intoxicated mighty (white) bull moving in a stable. [5-5-1]

english translation

tataH sa madhyaMgatamaMzumantaM jyotsnAvitAnaM mahadudvamantam | dadarza dhImAn divi bhAnumantaM goSThe vRSaM mattamiva bhramantam || 5-5-1

लोकस्य पापानि विनाशयन्तं महोदधिं चापि समेधयन्तम् | भूतानि सर्वाणि विराजयन्तं ददर्श शीतांशुमथाभियान्तम् || ५-५-२

sanskrit

While moving forward, Hanuman saw the Moon spreading his light, thereby warding off the agony of all creatures, causing the swelling of the ocean and illuminating the earth as well as the sky. [5-5-2]

lokasya pApAni vinAzayantaM mahodadhiM cApi samedhayantam | bhUtAni sarvANi virAjayantaM dadarza zItAMzumathAbhiyAntam || 5-5-2

The same splendour on the Mandara mountain on earth, which glows at dusk lay on the ocean is there, on lotuses in the lakes and on the beautiful Moon also. [5-5-3]

yA bhAti lakSmIrbhuvi mandarasthA tathA pradoSeSu ca sAgarasthA | tathaiva toyeSu ca puSkarasthA rarAja sA cArunizAkarasthA || 5-5-3

Like a swan in a cage of silver, like a lion in a cave of Mandara mountain, like a hero on a proud, intoxicated elephant, the Moon shone in the sky. [5-5-4]

haMso yathA rAjatapaJjarasthaH siMho yathA mandarakandarasthaH | vIro yathA garvitakuJjarastha candro'pi babhrAja tathAmbarasthaH || 5-5-4

The fullmoon with its hornlike spot shone like a bull with sharp horns, like the white Himalayan mountain with its lofty peaks, and like an elephant with gold plated tusks. [5-5-5]

sthitaH kakudmAniva tIkSNazRGgo mahAcalaH zveta ivoccazRGgaH | hastIva jAmbUnadabaddhazRGgo rarAja candraH paripUrNazRGgaH || 5-5-5
