श्रुता नो यादृशाः पूर्वं नृपतीनां विनाशने । आकारांस्तानहं सर्वानिहपश्यामि सारथे ॥ २-७१-३६
Oh ! charioteer, I now see the very for ebodings I had heard in the past in connection with the death of kings. ॥ 2-71-36॥

zrutA no yAdRzAH pUrvaM nRpatInAM vinAzane । AkArAMstAnahaM sarvAnihapazyAmi sArathe ॥ 2-71-36

I see the unswept homes of householders standing dirty with doors not closed, bereft of splendour on all sides. ॥ 2-71-37॥

sammArjanavihInAni paruSANyupalakSaye । asaMyata kavATAni zrIvihInAni sarvazaH ॥ 2-71-37

No one offers oblations (at the time of worship). There is no fragrance of burning incense. The families have not eaten food. The people look cheerless. ॥ 2-71-38॥

I see inauspiciousness in the houses of families. The floors of front yards are left unswept and unsmeared, devoid of the beauty of floral garlands. ॥ 2-71-39॥

alakSmIkAni pazyAmi kuTumbibhavanAnyaham । apetamAlyazobhAni hyasammRSTAjirANi ca ॥ 2-71-39
hk transliteration by Sanscriptदेवागाराणि शून्यानि न चाभान्ति यथापुरम् । देवतार्चाः प्रविद्धाश्च यज्ञगोष्ठ्यस्तथाविधाः ॥ २-७१-४०
The temples look deserted, devoid of brightness of the past. The offerings to deities have been dispensed with. There are no groups of people performing the usual holy sacrifices. ॥ 2-71-40॥
