एवं वैन्यसुतः प्रोक्तस्त्वरमाणं विहायसा । अन्वद्रवदभिक्रुद्धो रावणं गृध्रराडिव ।। ४-१९-१६ ।।

sanskrit

Being thus informed, the grandson of King Vena immediately began to follow Indra, who was fleeing through the sky in great haste. He was very angry with him, and he chased him just as the king of the vultures chased Rāvaṇa. ।। 4-19-16 ।।

english translation

इस प्रकार सूचित किये जाने पर राजा वेन के पौत्र ने तुरन्त इन्द्र का पीछा करना प्रारम्भ किया, जो तेजी से आकाश से होकर भाग रहा था। वह उस पर अत्यन्त कुपित हुआ और उसका पीछा करने लगा मानो गृद्धराज रावण का पीछा कर रहा हो। ।। ४-१९-१६ ।।

सोऽश्वं रूपं च तद्धित्वा तस्मा अन्तर्हितः स्वराट् । वीरः स्वपशुमादाय पितुर्यज्ञमुपेयिवान् ।। ४-१९-१७ ।।

sanskrit

When Indra saw that the son of Pṛthu was chasing him, he immediately abandoned his false dress and left the horse. Indeed, he disappeared from that very spot, and the great hero, the son of Mahārāja Pṛthu, returned the horse to his father’s sacrificial arena. ।। 4-19-17 ।।

english translation

जब इन्द्र ने देखा कि पृथु का पुत्र उसका पीछा कर रहा है, तो उसने तुरन्त ही अपना कपट वेष त्याग दिया और घोड़े को छोड़ कर वह उस स्थान से अन्तर्धान हो गया। महाराज पृथु का महान् वीर पुत्र घोड़े को लेकर अपने पिता के यज्ञस्थल में लौट आया। ।। ४-१९-१७ ।।

तत्तस्य चाद्भुतं कर्म विचक्ष्य परमर्षयः । नामधेयं ददुस्तस्मै विजिताश्व इति प्रभो ।। ४-१९-१८ ।।

My dear Lord Vidura, when the great sages observed the wonderful prowess of the son of King Pṛthu, they all agreed to give him the name Vijitāśva. ।। 4-19-18 ।।

english translation

हे विदुर महाशय, जब ऋषियों ने राजा पृथु के पुत्र का आश्चर्यजनक पराक्रम देखा तो सबों ने उसका नाम विजिताश्व रखना स्वीकार किया। ।। ४-१९-१८ ।।

उपसृज्य तमस्तीव्रं जहाराश्वं पुनर्हरिः । चषाल यूपतश्छन्नो हिरण्यरशनं विभुः ।। ४-१९-१९ ।।

sanskrit

My dear Vidura, Indra, being the King of heaven and very powerful, immediately brought a dense darkness upon the sacrificial arena. Covering the whole scene in this way, he again took away the horse, which was chained with golden shackles near the wooden instrument where animals were sacrificed. ।। 4-19-19 ।।

english translation

हे विदुर, स्वर्ग का राजा तथा अत्यन्त शक्तिशाली होने के कारण इन्द्र ने तुरन्त यज्ञस्थल पर घोर अंधकार फैला दिया। इस प्रकार पूरे स्थल को प्रच्छन्न करके उसने पुन: वह घोड़ा हर लिया जो बलि-स्थल पर काष्ठ-यंत्र के समीप सोने की जंजीर से बँधा था। ।। ४-१९-१९ ‌।।

अत्रिः सन्दर्शयामास त्वरमाणं विहायसा । कपालखट्वाङ्गधरं वीरो नैनमबाधत ।। ४-१९-२० ।।

sanskrit

The great sage Atri again pointed out to the son of King Pṛthu that Indra was fleeing through the sky. The great hero, the son of Pṛthu, chased him again. But when he saw that Indra was carrying in his hand a staff with a skull at the top and was again wearing the dress of a sannyāsī, he still chose not to kill him. ।। 4-19-20 ।।

english translation

अत्रि मुनि ने राजा पृथु के पुत्र को पुन: दिखलाया कि इन्द्र आकाश से होकर भागा जा रहा है। परम वीर पृथु-पुत्र ने पुन: उसका पीछा किया। किन्तु जब उसने देखा कि उसने हाथ में जो दण्ड धारण कर रखा है उस पर खोपड़ी लटक रही है और वह पुन: संन्यासी वेश में है, तो उसने उसे मारना उचित नहीं समझा। ।। ४-१९-२० ।।
