वैशम्पायनशिष्या वै चरकाध्वर्यवोऽभवन् । यच्चेरुर्ब्रह्महत्यांहः क्षपणं स्वगुरोर्व्रतम् ॥ १२-६-६१ ॥
The disciples of Vaiśampāyana became authorities in the Atharva Veda. They were known as the Carakas because they executed strict vows to free their guru from his sin of killing a brāhmaṇa. ॥ 12-6-61 ॥

वैशम्पायन के शिष्य अथर्ववेद के अधिकारी बन गये। उन्हें चरक के नाम से जाना जाता था क्योंकि उन्होंने अपने गुरु को ब्राह्मण हत्या के पाप से मुक्त करने के लिए कठोर प्रतिज्ञा की थी। ॥ १२-६-६१ ॥

Once Yājñavalkya, one of the disciples of Vaiśampāyana, said: O master, how much benefit will be derived from the feeble endeavors of these weak disciples of yours? I will personally perform some outstanding penance. ॥ 12-6-62 ॥

एक बार वैशम्पायन के शिष्यों में से एक याज्ञवल्क्य ने कहा: हे गुरु, आपके इन कमजोर शिष्यों के कमजोर प्रयासों से कितना लाभ होगा? मैं व्यक्तिगत रूप से कुछ उत्कृष्ट तपस्या करूँगा। ॥ १२-६-६२ ॥

इत्युक्तो गुरुरप्याह कुपितो याह्यलं त्वया । विप्रावमन्त्रा शिष्येण मदधीतं त्यजाश्विति ॥ १२-६-६३ ॥
Addressed thus, the spiritual master Vaiśampāyana became angry and said: Go away from here! Enough of you, O disciple who insults brāhmaṇas! Furthermore, you must immediately give back everything I have taught you. ॥ 12-6-63 ॥

इस प्रकार संबोधित करने पर, आध्यात्मिक गुरु वैशम्पायन क्रोधित हो गए और कहा: यहाँ से चले जाओ! बहुत हो गया हे शिष्य, ब्राह्मणों का अपमान करने वाले! इसके अलावा, तुम्हें वह सब कुछ तुरंत लौटा देना चाहिए जो मैंने तुम्हें सिखाया है। ॥ १२-६-६३ ॥

देवरातसुतः सोऽपि छर्दित्वा यजुषां गणम् । ततो गतोऽथ मुनयो ददृशुस्तान् यजुर्गणान् ॥ १२-६-६४ ॥
Yājñavalkya, the son of Devarāta, then vomited the mantras of the Yajur Veda and went away from there. The assembled disciples, looking greedily upon these yajur hymns, assumed the form of partridges and picked them all up. ॥ 12-6-64 ॥

तब देवरात के पुत्र याज्ञवल्क्य ने यजुर्वेद के मंत्रों का उच्चारण किया और वहां से चले गये। इकट्ठे हुए शिष्यों ने, इन यजुर भजनों को लालच से देखते हुए, तीतर का रूप धारण किया और उन सभी को उठा लिया। ॥ १२-६-६४ ॥

यजूंषि तित्तिरा भूत्वा तल्लोलुपतयाऽऽददुः । तैत्तिरीया इति यजुःशाखा आसन् सुपेशलाः ॥ १२-६-६५ ॥
These divisions of the Yajur Veda therefore became known as the most beautiful Taittirīya-saṁhitā, the hymns collected by partridges [tittirāḥ]. ॥ 12-6-65 ॥
english translation
इसलिए यजुर्वेद के इन प्रभागों को सबसे सुंदर तैत्तिरीय-संहिता के रूप में जाना जाता है, तीतरों द्वारा एकत्र किए गए भजन [तित्तिरः]। ॥ १२-६-६५ ॥
