इयं च भूमिर्भगवता न्यासितोरुभरा सती । श्रीमद्भिस्तत्पदन्यासैः सर्वतः कृतकौतुका ।। १-१७-२६ ।।

sanskrit

The burden of the earth was certainly diminished by the Personality of Godhead and by others as well. When He was present as an incarnation, all good was performed because of His auspicious footprints. ।। 1-17-26 ।।

english translation

निश्चय ही, पृथ्वी का बोझ भगवान् द्वारा तथा अन्यों द्वारा भी कम किया गया था। जब वे अवतार के रूप में विद्यमान थे, तो उनके शुभ पदचिह्नों द्वारा समस्त कल्याण सम्पन्न होता था। ।। १-१७-२६ ।।

शोचत्यश्रुकला साध्वी दुर्भगेवोज्झिताधुना । अब्रह्मण्या नृपव्याजाः शूद्रा भोक्ष्यन्ति मामिति ।। १-१७-२७ ।।

sanskrit

Now she, the chaste one, being unfortunately forsaken by the Personality of Godhead, laments her future with tears in her eyes, for now she is being ruled and enjoyed by lower-class men who pose as rulers. ।। 1-17-27 ।।

english translation

अब यह सती दुर्भाग्यवश भगवान् द्वारा परित्यक्त होने के कारण, अपने नेत्रों में अश्रु भरकर अपने भविष्य (भाग्य) के लिए शोक कर रही है, क्योंकि अब वह शासक के जैसा स्वाँग करने वाले निम्न जाति के पुरुषों द्वारा शासित तथा भोग्य है। ।। १-१७-२७ ।।

zocatyazrukalA sAdhvI durbhagevojjhitAdhunA | abrahmaNyA nRpavyAjAH zUdrA bhokSyanti mAmiti || 1-17-27 ||

इति धर्मं महीं चैव सान्त्वयित्वा महारथः । निशातमाददे खड्गं कलयेऽधर्महेतवे ।। १-१७-२८ ।।

sanskrit

Mahārāja Parīkṣit, who could fight one thousand enemies single-handedly, thus pacified the personality of religion and the earth. Then he took up his sharp sword to kill the personality of Kali, who is the cause of all irreligion. ।। 1-17-28 ।।

english translation

इस प्रकार, एक साथ हजार शत्रुओं से अकेले लड़ सकनेवाले महाराज परीक्षित ने धर्म तथा पृथ्वी को सान्त्वना दी। तब उन्होंने समस्त अधर्म के कारण साक्षात् कलि को मारने के लिए अपनी तेज तलवार निकाल ली। ।। १-१७-२८ ।।

iti dharmaM mahIM caiva sAntvayitvA mahArathaH | nizAtamAdade khaDgaM kalaye'dharmahetave || 1-17-28 ||

तं जिघांसुमभिप्रेत्य विहाय नृपलाञ्छनम् । तत्पादमूलं शिरसा समगाद्भयविह्वलः ।। १-१७-२९ ।।

sanskrit

When the personality of Kali understood that the King was willing to kill him, he at once abandoned the dress of a king and, under pressure of fear, completely surrendered to him, bowing his head. ।। 1-17-29 ।।

english translation

जब कलि ने समझ लिया कि राजा उसको मार डालना चाह रहा है, तो उसने तुरन्त राजा का वेश त्याग दिया और भयभीत होकर अपना सिर झुका कर पूर्णरूप से उनके समक्ष आत्म- समर्पण कर दिया। ।। १-१७-२९ ।।

taM jighAMsumabhipretya vihAya nRpalAJchanam | tatpAdamUlaM zirasA samagAdbhayavihvalaH || 1-17-29 ||

पतितं पादयोर्वीरः कृपया दीनवत्सलः । शरण्यो नावधीच्छ्लोक्य आह चेदं हसन्निव ।। १-१७-३० ।।

sanskrit

Mahārāja Parīkṣit, who was qualified to accept surrender and worthy of being sung in history, did not kill the poor surrendered and fallen Kali, but smiled compassionately, for he was kind to the poor. ।। 1-17-30 ।।

english translation

शरणागत के रक्षक तथा इतिहास में प्रशंसनीय महाराज परीक्षित ने उस दीन शरणागत तथा पतित कलि को मारा नहीं, अपितु वे दयापूर्वक हँसने लगे, क्योंकि वे दीनवत्सल जो हैं। ।। १-१७-३० ।।
