अथ रामो महाप्राज्ञो विश्वामित्रं महामुनिम् । पप्रच्छ प्रांजलिर्भूत्वा विशालामुत्तमां पुरीम् ॥ १-४५-११
Thereafter great intellectual, Rama, with folded palms enquired of eminent ascetic Vishwamitra, about the excellent city of Vishala. - ॥ 1-45-11॥
english translation
atha rAmo mahAprAjJo vizvAmitraM mahAmunim । papraccha prAMjalirbhUtvA vizAlAmuttamAM purIm ॥ 1-45-11
hk transliteration by Sanscriptकतमो राजवंशोऽयं विशालायां महामुने । श्रोतुमिच्छामि भद्रं ते परं कौतूहलं हि मे ॥ १-४५-१२
- "O Distinguished ascetic, which royal dynasty is ruling this city of Vishala? Could you tell me? Great is my curiosity. May you prosper". ॥ 1-45-12॥
english translation
katamo rAjavaMzo'yaM vizAlAyAM mahAmune । zrotumicchAmi bhadraM te paraM kautUhalaM hi me ॥ 1-45-12
hk transliteration by Sanscriptतस्य तद्वचनं श्रुत्वा रामस्य मुनिपुंगवः । आख्यातुं तत्समारेभे विशालस्य पुरातनम् ॥ १-४५-१३
Vishwamitra, preeminent among ascetics, hearing the words of Rama commenced to relate the history of the ancient city of Vishala. ॥ 1-45-13॥
english translation
tasya tadvacanaM zrutvA rAmasya munipuMgavaH । AkhyAtuM tatsamArebhe vizAlasya purAtanam ॥ 1-45-13
hk transliteration by Sanscriptश्रूयतां राम शक्रस्य कथां कथयतः श्रुताम् । अस्मिन् देशे हि यद्वृत्तं शृणु तत्त्वेन राघव ॥ १-४५-१४
Oh ! Rama, "I will tell you about the auspicious legend of Indra as I was told, and you listen to it as I tell. Oh ! Raghava, indeed you may now listen to the quintessence of what has happened in this country". ॥ 1-45-14॥

zrUyatAM rAma zakrasya kathAM kathayataH zrutAm । asmin deze hi yadvRttaM zRNu tattvena rAghava ॥ 1-45-14
hk transliteration by Sanscriptपूर्वं कृतयुगे राम दितेः पुत्रा महाबलाः । अदितेश्च महाभागा वीर्यवन्तः सुधार्मिकाः ॥ १-४५-१५
Once in Krita era ( Satyuga ), oh, Rama, the sons of Lady Diti were extremely energetic, whereas the sons of her younger sister Lady Aditi were vigorous and highly righteous. ॥ 1-45-15॥

pUrvaM kRtayuge rAma diteH putrA mahAbalAH । aditezca mahAbhAgA vIryavantaH sudhArmikAH ॥ 1-45-15
