ते प्रीतमनसः सर्वे मुनयो धर्मवत्सलाः | प्रशशंसुः प्रशस्तव्यौ गायमानौ कुशीलवौ || १-४-१६

All those saints being the saint-patrons of virtue are pleased at heart, and praised the praiseworthy Kusha and Lava, while they are singing. [1-4-16]

te prItamanasaH sarve munayo dharmavatsalAH | prazazaMsuH prazastavyau gAyamAnau kuzIlavau || 1-4-16

अहो गीतस्य माधुर्यं श्लोकानां च विशोषतः | चिरनिर्वृत्तमप्येतत् प्रत्यक्षमिव दर्शितम् || १-४-१७

"The melody of the ballad, especially the meaning of verses, aha! Superb... though this has happened long-ago it is shown like the one happening presently... [1-4-17]

english translation

aho gItasya mAdhuryaM zlokAnAM ca vizoSataH | ciranirvRttamapyetat pratyakSamiva darzitam || 1-4-17

प्रविश्य तावुभौ सुष्ठु तथा भावमगायताम् | सहितौ मधुरं रक्तं सम्पन्नं स्वरसम्पदा || १-४-१८

They both chanted in perfect unison in theme and passion, with their charming melodious voice endowed with the rich notes of music. [1-4-18]

pravizya tAvubhau suSThu tathA bhAvamagAyatAm | sahitau madhuraM raktaM sampannaM svarasampadA || 1-4-18

एवं प्रशस्यमानौ तौ तपःश्लाघ्यैर्महर्षिभिः | संरक्ततरमत्यर्थं मधुरं तावगायताम् || १-४-१९

Praised in this manner by the great sages commendable for their austerities, they chanted even with greater charm and sweetness. [1-4-19]

प्रीतः कश्चिन्मुनिस्ताभ्यां संस्थितः कलशं ददौ | प्रसन्नो वल्कलं कश्चिद्ददौ ताभ्यां महायशाः || १-४-२०

Pleased with the singing, one of the sages seated in the assembly presented them a pitcher. Another sage of renown got so delighted that he gave them garments. [1-4-20]
