1. 21

    कार्यकारणकर्तृत्वे हेतुः प्रकृतिरुच्यते । पुरुषः सुखदुःखानां भोक्तृत्वे हेतुरुच्यते ॥ १३-२१॥

    The Prakrti is said to be the cause of agency to the body ( Karya ) and sense-organs ( Karan ). The self ( Purush ) is said to be the cause of experiencing pleasure and pain.

    पुरुषः प्रकृतिस्थो हि भुङ्क्ते प्रकृतिजान्गुणान् । कारणं गुणसङ्गोऽस्य सदसद्योनिजन्मसु ॥ १३-२२॥

    Indeed, the self (Purush ) seated in Prakriti experiences the Gunas born of Prakriti. Its attachment to these Gunas is the cause of birth in good and evil Yoni ( "place of origin" of species or cosmic entities ).

    उपद्रष्टानुमन्ता च भर्ता भोक्ता महेश्वरः । परमात्मेति चाप्युक्तो देहेऽस्मिन्पुरुषः परः ॥ १३-२३॥

    Param Purush ( The Supreme Soul ) in this body is also called the spectator, the approver , the supporter, the Experiencer, Maheshwar ( the great Lord )and Paramaatma( the Supreme Self ).

    य एवं वेत्ति पुरुषं प्रकृतिं च गुणैः सह । सर्वथा वर्तमानोऽपि न स भूयोऽभिजायते ॥ १३-२४॥

    He who knows thus the Purush ( Person ) and Prakriti ( Nature ) along with the Gunas( alities ) will not be born again, in whatever way he may live.

    ध्यानेनात्मनि पश्यन्ति केचिदात्मानमात्मना । अन्ये साङ्ख्येन योगेन कर्मयोगेन चापरे ॥ १३-२५॥

    Through meditation some realize the Self in (their) intellect with the help of the internal organ; others through Sankhya-yoga, and others through Karma-yoga.
