1. 36

    भरतस्त्वभिषिच्येत यदेतदभिषेचन्म् | त्वदर्थे विहितम् राज्ञा तेन सर्वेण राघव || २-१८-३६

    Bharata shall be consecrated, Oh ! descendant of the Raghu dynasty (Rama)' with all these preparations made by the king to install you. [2-18-36]

  2. 37

    सप्त सप्त च वर्षाणि दण्डक अरण्यम् आश्रितः | अभिषेकम् इमम् त्यक्त्वा जटा चीर धरः वस || २-१८-३७

    Forsake this consecration, wear matted locks and deerskin and take refuge in Dandaka forest for fourteen years. [2-18-37]

  3. 38

    भरतः कोसल पुरे प्रशास्तु वसुधाम् इमाम् | नाना रत्न समाकीर्णम् सवाजि रथ कुन्जराम् || २-१८-३८

    Let Bharata live in Ayodhya, the capital of Kosala and rule this kingdom rich in gems of different kinds, in horses, chariots and elephants. [2-18-38]

  4. 39

    एतेन त्वां नरेन्द्रोयम् कारुण्येन समाप्लुतः | शोकसंक्लिष्टवदनो न शक्नोति निरीक्षितुम् || २-१८-३९

    This is why the king with his face tortured by tears and (his heart) overwhelmed with compassion for you, is unable to look at you. [2-18-39]

  5. 40

    एतत्कुरु नरेन्ध्रस्य वचनं रघुनन्दन | सत्यन महता राम तारयस्व नरेश्वरम् || २-१८-४०

    Oh ! Raghunandana ( Rama ), carry out the word of promise given by the king and save him by helping him to keep the truth which is great.' [2-18-40]
